Photographing abandoned Buzludzha
This winter, photographer Timothy Allen braved snowstorms and horrific cold to shoot the UFO-like Buzludzha monument near Stara Zagora.
Buzludzha was built to commemorate events in 1891 when the socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled to form an organised socialist movement. It was opened in 1981.
More than 6000 workers were involved in its 7 year construction including 20 leading Bulgarian artists who worked for 18 months on the interior decoration.
Well worth reading Timothy Allenís story here.
