First Japanese footballer to play in Bulgaria
Attacking midfielder Taisuke Akiyoshi has joined Slavia Sofia on a two-and-a-half-year deal to become the first Japanese player in the Bulgarian league.
"Slavia were the first Bulgarian club to sign a Brazilian (Rogerio Pereira) and now we're the first club signing a Japanese player," said the club’s president.
Slavia Sofia has won the Bulgarian Championship 7 times and the Bulgarian Cup 7 times. It is Sofia’s oldest club, and next year marks its 100th anniversary.
