Good news about corruption

According to the latest Transparency International ‘Global Corruption Barometer’ reported on BBC, Bulgaria is an island of relatively low corruption.

In each of the 95 countries surveyed, the study asked 1000 people whether they had paid a bribe to a public body in the last year.

Bulgaria scored 8% - markedly lower than each of its immediate neighbours: Greece 22%, Macedonia 17%, Serbia 26%, Romania 17% and Turkey 21%.

Worldwide the worst performers are Sierra Leone (84%) and Liberia (75%).

The best are Denmark, Finland, Japan and Australia (all four recorded under 1%).
