The first day of March - Baba Marta - is a traditional holiday associated with sending off winter and welcoming spring.

Martenitsas are worn from March 1 until around the end of March. The custom is to wish great health, good luck, and happiness to family and friends.

When someone gives you aMartenitsa you wear it until you see a stork, a swallow or a fruit tree in blossom for the first time in the season.
