Earthquake hits Sofia
A 5.8-magnitude quake struck Sofia early today, alarming residents – many ran into the streets. Some minor damage was caused, but no casualties have been reported so far.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was about 24km west of Sofia and occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 9km.
The first quake was followed by a series of aftershocks, the strongest of which measured 4.2 - 4.3 on the Richter scale.
