China invests in Bulgaria

Western investors in Bulgaria may be fewer these days, but the Chinese are storming ahead with a varied array of interests.
Tianjin State Farms is spending ?30m to lease agricultural land to grow corn, forage, and sunflower. The produce will be exported to China.
In an investment of over ?20m, a Chinese consortium is building a large wind farm with 150 wind turbines in the north east of Bulgaria.
Other Chinese investments coveráproperty projects in Plovdiv, farms and vineyards.

Meanwhile production has begun at the ?28m Great Wall Motors factory in north central Bulgaria. It plans to produce 50,000 passenger cars, pick-up trucks and SUVs and to employ 2,000.
