NATO centre for disaster relief
NATO is setting up in Sofia an international centre of excellence for crisis management and disaster relief. Formal agreement was signed today.
The Centre will be the first international organization in Bulgaria accredited by NATO.
The Centre of Excellence in Bulgaria describes its mission: “NATO’s role in crisis and disaster response goes beyond pure military actions and includes Crisis and Disaster Response Operations aimed to prevent crisis situations and to protect civilians, critical infrastructure and lifesaving systems against natural, technological and humanitarian disasters.
“Being aware of the fact that a crisis might have political, military, social or humanitarian dimensions, the NATO Crisis Response System encompasses different military and civilian means and capabilities in order to address these diverse challenges.”
